Procurement is key to driving sustainability efforts and reducing carbon emissions - and here’s why
As sustainability regulations tighten worldwide, businesses face mounting pressure to accurately disclose and reduce their carbon emissions. However, the intricate and often opaque nature of Scope 3 data – which encompasses emissions embedded across the entire value chain, from suppliers to end consumers – means that many companies still rely on broad estimates to report their carbon footprint. This dependence on estimated data can lead to inaccuracies that hinder business leaders from making informed decisions with a genuine impact on sustainability.

Why we need innovation in construction and freight to tackle air pollution
When we launched Breathable Cities in 2023, an accelerator programme for startups tackling air pollution, we didn’t envisage the diversity of solutions in development. It became an unexpected opportunity and a challenge because air pollution has so many contributory factors seeking solutions.

Staying sane as a climate-tech founder
"Wow! That must be so purposeful!" This is a common reaction when I reluctantly tell people what it is my business does. We are a developer of carbon abatement and carbon removal projects at large scale to create a healthier earth (also our company name). In a world that is obsessed with purpose, this appears to be a holy grail of work. However, for me personally, it has been highly anxiety inducing. On top of building a business, I am also reminded daily about the reality of the challenges ahead of us.

Planting forests, not trees: reforestation and the challenge of sustainability
For the UN, the 2020-2030 decade is the decade of ecosystem restoration. To achieve this goal, we need to appreciate the extreme complexity and gigantic diversity of the planet's ecosystems. Forests, the main carbon sink alongside the ocean, are the best example: tropical, temperate, coniferous, humid, dry, mangrove, boreal... Affected by massive deforestation, these areas are on the front line of the climate emergency.
