Even at the best of times founders need to prove themselves and their product worthy of thousands, even millions of pounds of other peoples’ hard earned cash. Having the next best thing might open the door to funding, having the right network, having met the right people and being part of an often closed/close-nit community also helps far too much. Sad but often true.
