For years, Orange lacked an online trade-in offering, but with Dipli's cutting-edge technology, the new service is set to make the process smoother, more accessible, and better aligned with the growing demand for sustainable solutions.
The partnership highlights a strong commitment to the circular economy, offering a solution designed to reduce electronic waste by promoting the recycling and refurbishment of smartphones.
A seamless digital trade-in experience
An IPSOS study commissioned by Dipli revealed that 69% of French consumers have never sold their old smartphones, presenting a clear opportunity for growth in online trade-in services. The survey also found that 38% of French consumers trust their mobile operator for this task, citing simplicity and speed as key factors. In response, Orange has launched an entirely online trade-in platform, powered by Dipli, allowing users—whether or not they are current Orange customers—to easily sell their old phones while benefiting from trade-in offers that match in-store pricing.
A simplified and transparent process
Dipli, known for its expertise in the second life of electronics, designed and manages the entire trade-in process. The company ensures consistency by offering the same pricing online as in-store, a crucial component of the omnichannel strategies favoured by telecom operators. Customers also enjoy free shipping for their trade-ins, courtesy of Orange.
Dipli’s technology, which powers both the online and in-store solutions, uses a sophisticated algorithm to calculate trade-in offers—even for devices with defects. By working with top refurbishers, Dipli ensures that smartphones are refurbished, reused, and given a second life, maximising the value of each device.
Paving the way for sustainable technology practices
This initiative not only offers environmental benefits but also provides financial incentives for consumers by offering compensation when purchasing new devices. Available to both Orange and non-Orange customers, this user-friendly platform simplifies smartphone recycling and refurbishment, advancing digital responsibility by reducing unused devices and encouraging their responsible disposal.
As the demand for sustainable solutions grows, this partnership between Orange and Dipli sets the stage for a significant shift in how smartphones are managed, recycled, and reused in France.
"This online trade-in service is a testament to Orange’s commitment to an efficient, omnichannel approach," said Reynold Simonnet, CEO and Co-founder of Dipli. "We are proud to partner with Orange to take this unprecedented step forward in simplifying and accelerating the recycling of smartphones."
